Leadership Education in Pediatric Nutrition (LEPN) University of Alabama at Birmingham Mission To improve the health of infants, children and adolescents and their families through 1) Training the pediatric nutrition workforce by providing long-term training in pediatric clinical and public health nutrition and 2) providing continuing education to nutritionists and health care providers of various disciplines in the area of pediatric nutrition, health promotion/disease prevention and behavioral counseling. • Academic Programs: • MS (clinical nutrition), • MA (health education exercise physiology), • MPH (MCH, Health behavior), • Dietetic Internship • Intensive Course in Pediatric Nutrition Relationships, Non-traditional Partnership with Alabama State University (HBC) in funding from National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparity (NCMHD) to address health disparities in rural Alabama Distance Learning Pediatric update-yearly satellite teleconference on current topics in pediatric nutrition • Relationships, Professional • American Dietetic Association: PIPPAH • Consultant, Pediatric Practice Group Board, • chair legislative task force • American Academy of Pediatrics: Bright • Futures expert committee • Society of Adolescent Medicine: clinical • practice committee Internships & Training Programs Dietetic Internship, variety of long-term training in nutrition Other MCH Funded Programs Interdisciplinary training programs: LEND,LEAH,PPC,SPH UAB MCH Collaborative Network of all training programs on UAB campus Public Health Networks State title V workgroup: all title V agencies meet to discuss collaboration on a quarterly basis National Adolescent Health Initiative, working with State Title V to develop state initiative Clinical Programs Emphasis in the areas of childhood obesity, eating disorders, HIV, pediatric pulmonary, rural health, inpatient
