  2. history • French designer, Jeanne Lanvin • One of the most influential designers of the 1920s and '30s • made beautiful clothes for her daughter • attracted the attention of wealthy people who requested copies • Then started making clothing for their mothers • Attracted the attention of the most famous names in Europe

  3. History cont… • 1909: Lanvin joined the Syndicat de la Couture • marking her formal status as a couturiere • Lanvin is the oldest fashion house still in operation • Current head designer, AlberElbaz

  4. Important style characteristics • Skillful use of complex trimmings • Dazzling embroideries • Beaded decorations in light, clear and floral colors (Lanvin trademark) •  fluid draped dresses
