S&I FrameworkProvider Directories Initiative Office of Standards and Interoperability January 27, 2012
ONC Approach to Provider Directories:High Level • PD is recognized as critical to overall standards and infrastructure efforts • Recognized by ONC Leadership, HITSC, and Programs (e.g., State HIE) • Several areas undefined because current market evidence is low • Not a surprise: as we collectively agreed, we don’t want to be over-prescriptive, and want to enable market-driven proof • Good news: market is innovating; ONC wants to encourage • The “catch”: pressure on S&I to sharpen focus on real-world usage • Implications for this initiative? • Not substantial. Already completed several major deliverables. • We can get going on forward-looking objectives. But the way we approach them will have to change a bit • Evidence from other initiatives (LRI, ToC, PH, LCC) suggests that this will require only minor adjustments for the community
ONC Approach to Provider Directories:Impact on S&I PD Community’s Goals Comments, Questions, Concerns?
Immediate Next Steps • For the moment, all existing PD meetings are cancelled • The support team has created a page listing all the final artifacts, that can be used to provide feedback • Meeting to be scheduled in the next ~2 weeks, where WG Leads will share the HITSC presentation with you • S&I Coordination Team will work with OSI Leadership in parallel to determine which HITSC Committee/Sub-Committee meeting we will present to first + the path forward • Stay tuned for a forum to be created for implementers to engage • S&I Coordination Team will work with State HIE Program in parallel to figure out a forum, time, etc. • Last but not least: Thank You! Enjoy the well-deserved break!
