  1. “High Tide” “Anna Mackenzie” Leadership/ Taking Part By Tyler Firn

  2. Essay… An important idea in High Tide by Anna Mackenzie is Leadership . This idea is important because without anyone taking leadership Charlotte wouldn't have made it out of the rocks and none of the kids would have got out of the bush. An example of leadership is when Kahui starts to direct the group as soon as the accident happens, “When I reached them, Kahui was giving orders without taking his eyes off the sea.” I think that if Kahui hadn't started to give out orders then most of them would've gone into shock and not been able to help. I have also added Taking Part because having leadership is all good and well but if nobody was to help and take the roles that had been assigned Charlotte could have been washed away or killed.

  3. Explanation… I have chosen Leadership and Taking Part because this was a large part in the novel High Tide by Anna Mackenzie. It stood out to me because of the way each character took part in some way to find help and to keep Charlotte safe and alive. For example when the accent happened the first thing they did was get Charlotte wrapped up and out of the water. Then Jake, Cornelius and Sam set out to find help as the radio was out with Mr. Collins. Hannah then sat with Charlotte right up until the helicopter arrived at the batch.

  4. Characters that Leadership and Taking part relates to… Kahui- Takes control right away Jake- Helped to get Charlotte out of the rocks and to get help. Cornelius- Carried on from Huapai to get help. Sam- Helped to get Charlotte out of the rocks and to get help as well. Hannah- Stayed with Charlotte the whole time. Mr. Collins- Looked after the kids until the accident.

  5. Quotes... • •When I reached them, Kahui was giving orders without taking his eyes off the sea. • •”Can you get her out of her parka? If we put my polar fleece on her,” • Kahui turned to look at Jake, and there was no doubt who was in charge.

  6. Definition of Leadership... • the position or function of a leader: He managed to maintain his leadership of the party despite heavy opposition. • ability to lead: She displayed leadership potential. • an act or instance of leading; guidance; direction: They prospered under his leadership. • the leaders of a group: The union leadership agreed to arbitrate.
