Aim: • Recruit and retain membership for the development of the GG/GS in Taiwan.
Situation of Girl Scouting in Taiwan: • Single sex Organization • School-based: 80%, Community Troops: 20% • Different backgrounds
Ratio of Leaders to Girl Scouts 2009 Leaders : Girl Scouts = 1 : 7 2,520 Total:20,655 18,135
Strengths: • Public awareness • Value of GG/GS • Image of GG/GS
Weaknesses: • Low birth rate • Short years of staying in GG/GS • Schooling Competition • Pressure of family commitment for Leaders
Opportunities: • Government’s encouragement, support and partial financial subsidy • Increasing of perception of volunteerism among people • Support from Ministry of Education
Threats: • Boy Scouts recruit girls • Aging population
Ways and Activities On recruitment: • Set up new Pre-Brownie Groups • Set up community groups • 1+1 • Lend-A-Hand • Open-wide to other potential and prospective leaders
On retention: • To meet the needs of exist members to support their role in GG/GS. • Support Trainers and Leaders • Incentive of Leaders and Girl Scouts • Providing leaders with travel subsidy to attend events • Translation and networks • Update Girl Scout programs
Outcomes and changes: • Slight increased membership in 2009 comparing 2008 census • New age groups (Tadpole) were organized • Increased members of Adult Leaders from different backgrounds • More parents and community women were motivated to become Leaders • Increased opportunities for girls to participate in activities of WAGGGS

Benefits for girls and young women: • It assists in raising better awareness of Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting for promoting our Association. • It also provides girls and young women with opportunities with non-formal education to develop skills and knowledge relevant to the changing world
Tips: • Always remember that we are working for girls and young women. Both quality and quantity of GG/GS are important to us. • Keeps enthusiasm!
Conclusion: • Continuing recruit and retain members is our priority for Girl Scout Association’s development and growth.
