  5. The Attractive Building • A place that different people can come to happily and safely • A place that meets needs but caters for a community not just an interest group • A sense of the Sacred / Holy • A functional sustainability

  6. The Attractive Building • Opportunities • Somewhere “special” - Nowhere else like it • Recognised as “church” • Expectancy that God might be there Problems • Lighting / Darkness • Heating / Cold • Toilets • Flexibility • Comfort – seats and recreational space

  7. The Attractive Building • A place that different people can come to happily and safely • A place that meets needs but caters for a community not just an interest group • A sense of the Sacred / Holy • A functional sustainability

  8. One Example A sense of the sacred? A functional sustainability? A place that different people can feel they can come to safely? A place that meets the varied needs of a varied community?

  9. Sacred but for whom? • The silent place may be a place of death! E.g. African culture • The big building with a big door may be scary: a place of authority • The sacred ‘needs’ to be awoken in some people who don’t yet know.

  10. Sacred – “Immanent sacredness” • “I liked it in there” • “I felt welcome” • “I was allowed ..” / “my kids were allowed” • “There was something for me” • “I made a connection” Belonging shapes believing ??
