3D Geometry. Polyhedron. a 3-D solid made up of polygons. Face. the flat surface of a polyhedron- -faces are all polygons. Edge. the line segment formed when two faces meet. Vertex. the point where faces meet. Base. one face that determines the type of solid it is.

  2. Base one face that determinesthe type of solid it is. (a polyhedron is named by its base) Its base is a pentagon—there are two of them!

  3. Types of Polyhedra Prism has two bases that are parallel and congruent polygons, and the other faces are parallelograms (named by the base) rectangular prism pentagonal prism

  4. Pyramid has only one base (polygon) and the other faces are triangles Square pyramid—its base is a square

  5. Other Types of Solids Cylinder has two parallel bases that are congruent circles Cone has one base that is a circle and a vertex Sphere All points the same distance from a given point in 3-D

  6. Surface Area (SA) the total areaof all the (sur)facesof a 3-D figure *measured in square units This square pyramidhas 5 faces: 4 congruent triangles and one square

  7. Volume (V) theamount of spaceinside a 3-D figure **measured in units cubed Ex: m∙m∙m = m3 V = bhH or lwh
