Purpose of Role Based Access Control

Role based access control (RBAC) is used to control access to information and resources by assigning roles to users and restricting access to certain resources based on those roles. RBAC helps to ensure that users only have access to the resources and information they need to do their job and prevents users from making unauthorized changes or accessing sensitive information.<br>

  1. INTRODUCTION Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) is an accesscontrol and security model that increases security by allowing organizations to control access to resources based on an individual's role or roles.

  2. Benefits of Role Based Access Control RBAC offers a more granular approach to security. By assigning access rights based on roles, RBAC makes it easier to set security policies for whole teams or departments rather than having to configure individual user accounts.

  3. System Components of RBAC RBAC includes three main components: Discretionary Access Control, Role Definition and Role Assignment.

  4. Discretionary Access Control for RBAC Discretionary Access Control is a system of access control which gives administrators a high degree of control over users’ rights to access and modify specific resources. Discretionary Access Control (DAC) is generally used in RBAC systems to grant, change, and restrict the right of access to resources or operations.

  5. ROLE DEFINITION IN RBAC Role Definition in RBAC is the process of allocating access rights and privileges to certain roles based on their assigned tasks. The roles in the system are defined by the administrator and then assigned to different users depending on their job requirements and their responsibilities.

  6. Role Assignment in RBAC Role Assignment is the process of assigning roles to users in order to grant them the necessary access rights. The process involves the administrator creating user groups and assigning roles to those groups. The user is only granted access to those resources that are assigned to them through the role they have been assigned.
