  2. SUPERLATIVES We use adjectives to describe things and nouns. For example: Renault is a fast car. İstanbul is a crowded city.

SUPERLATIVES *Also we use adjectives when we make comparisons. *We use comparatives when we compare one person, thing., etc with another. - We add “-er” to one syllable adjectives to make them comparative. examples: old-older big-bigger slow-slower nice-nicer dark-darker late-later - We add “-ier” to two-syllable adjectives ending in “-y”. examples: pretty- prettier heavy-heavier early-earlier dirty-dirtier

  4. SUPERLATIVES • -We add “more” to the other two-syllable and more syllable adjectives. • examples: careful- more careful polite-more polite • expensive-more expensive • Some adjectives are irregular. • examples: good-better • bad-worse • far-further • little-less

  5. Examples for comparatives: Jason Jack Jason is younger than Jack. Jack is older than Jason. 2x2=4 2x2 is easier than 15x11. 15x11=165 A plane is more comfortable than a bus. Mehmet has got less money than Ahmet.

  6. We also use the adjectives to make superlative sentences. We use superlatives when we compare one person or thing in a group with two or more other people or things in the same group.

SUPERLATIVES -We add “-est” to one syllable adjectives to make them superlative. examples: old- the oldest big- the biggest slow- the slowest nice- the nicest dark- the darkest late- the latest large- the largest fast- the fastest thin- the thinnest A tortoise is the slowest animal in the world.

  8. SUPERLATIVES • We add “-iest” to two-syllable adjectives ending in “-y”. • examples: pretty- the prettiest heavy- the heaviest early- the earliest • dirty- the dirtiest lucky- the luckiest easy- the easiest Deniz iz the prettiest person in our family.

  9. SUPERLATIVES • We add “the most” to the other two-syllable and more syllable adjectives. • examples: careful- themost careful polite- the most polite • expensive- the most expensive beautiful- the most beautiful • crowded- the most crowded interesting- the most interesting Filiz Akln is the most beautiful actress in Turkey.

  10. SUPERLATIVES • Some adjectives are irregular. • examples: good- the best • bad- the worst • far- the farthest / the furthest • little- the least Gargamel is the worst cartoon character.
