What is present perfect in English? I have spoken. She has eaten. We have lived. They have gone. You have saved. Present Perfect is considered a Compound Tense because it’s made up of 2 parts.
What 2 parts? • Part 1 A helping verb: HABER • he I have • has you have • ha he/she has you have • hemos we have • han they have
Part 2: a past participle regular past participles are formed by adding -ado to the stem of AR verbs OR -ido to the stem of ER/IR verbs Thus: hablado, trabajado, comido, vivido could be considered Past Participles
Put the 2 parts together • he habladoI have spoken • has habladoyou have spoken • ha habladohe/she has spoken • hemoshabladowe have spoken • hanhabladothey have spoken • Note: the form of HABER changes--- never the past participle
another example • he comido I have eaten • has comido you have eaten • ha comido he/she has eaten • hemos comido we have eaten • han comido they have eaten
are there irregular past participles? • sí • But why don’t I give you a list of them? • After receiving the list, I have a few more comments………
last bit of info. • with the present perfect the word NO must come before the form of haber as in.. • No he hablado. (You can’t separate the VERB TEAM) • also, any pronoun must come before the form of haber • as in….. • Lo hemos preparado. (You can’t separate the VERB TEAM)
