  4. When we’re available… • The WLHS library is open: • Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 7:30—4:00 • Tuesday, Thursday: 7:30—3:30 • Online Databases can be accessed 24/7 from any internet connection. See Ms. Reishus for the school’s AEA user log-in and password or pick up an AEA brochure at the library circulation desk.

Print Resources • Fiction • Arranged on the shelf alphabetically by the author’s last name • Usually, you will find FIC or Fiction and the first three letters of the author’s last name on the spine label • Nonfiction • Arranged on the shelf by the Dewey Decimal System • On the spine label, you will find the call number and the first three letters of the author’s last name • Biographies • Arranged on the shelf alphabetically by the subject’s last name • On the spine label, you will find BIO or Biography and the first three letters of the subject’s last name • Reference Materials • Located on the reference shelf—includes print encyclopedieas, atlases, almanacs, dictionaries, thesauruses, quotation books, etc.

Digital Resources • Iowa AEA Online Databases: • Worldbook Online • Student Researcher • EBSCO Full-text magazines • Clipart.com • SIRS Knowledge Source • Atomic Learning See Ms. Reishus for the username and password or pick up a AEA brochure at the library check-out desk • Rosen Teen Health and Wellness Database (Fall 2009!) • Your Library Website (updated version arriving Fall 2009!) • Your library catalog (will be online in 2009-2010!)

  9. Sure, you can check out books from the library. But you can also… …work collaboratively on projects ~ conduct personal and academic research with our print and digital resources ~ get help filling out the FAFSA, writing scholarship essays, or applying to college ~ play Bananagrams (ask for it at the desk!—when she has a chance, Ms. Reishus will join you for a round ) ~ check out movies, flash drives, and board games ~ study or work on homework ~ read a magazine or newspaper ~ ask Ms. Reishus or a peer to review a paper or presentation ~ get homework help ~ share or get book recommendations from your peers, teachers, and librarian ~ recommend a title to Ms. Reishus for the next book order~ surf the internet, online databases, and library web page ~ brainstorm ideas for class projects, essays, and presentations ~ meet new people ~ check out the new books on the display shelf ~ read in a comfy chair or bean bag ~ seek advice ~ share ideas ~ expand your mind…

Library Policies • Books and movies may be checked out for two weeks • Flash drives may be checked out for one quarter at a time • Magazines (excluding the current issue) may be checked out for one week • No cell phone use in library • No food or drink in library, except for water in a clear container • Be respectful of others and library resources • Use computers for personal and academic research (no games, unless they are word or math games)

  11. Library Assistant Opportunities Have a free period or unnecessary study hall? Become a Library Assistant! Check in/out books to students and teachers, help with reshelving, assist with displays and make book recommendations to your peers! See Mr. Christofferson and Ms. Reishus for details.
