  4. Technology Paradigm Shift • Current technology development is based on a few wealthy powerful people maintaining power through: • Military supremacy • Space and geographic supremacy • Corporate supremacy • Shift to distribution of power over technology development

  5. Distributing the power over technology • We first must address the basic needs of 100% of the world population • We must assure mass involvement in creative development and applications of science and technology • Local production is key • Household empowerment • Solar powered houses • Rain water collection • Household waste processing • Home based gardens

  6. Empowerment & democracy • Empowering a population technologically promotes democracy • Population will be better informed therefore more capable of making decisions that will benefit them

  7. Particular benefits for Africa • Africa has more natural resources than any other continent, yet has the world’s poorest population • Africa’s resources currently benefit the wealthy in the richest countries • Technology empowerment can shift this situation where Africa’s resources will benefit the poor and disadvantaged.

Strategy for Manifesto • Call for Manifesto at AT Symposium at Howard University in Washington DC in April 2010 • Addressed technology policy at 4th ICAT in Accra Ghana in November 2010 • Involving other organizations in call for AT manifesto • Technology policy central to 5th ICAT in Pretoria South Africa November 2012
