Education • Denmark has implemented the 3+2+3 system of the Bologna Declaration • ECTS classification since 2001: 1 year of study is 60 ECTS • A new grading scale from 2007: Grades from -03 to 12 • Learning outcome and qualifications in academic regulations • New funding scheme for PhDs (doubling to 2000 per year) and Post.docs (very substantial increase)

  4. Education at elite level • Danish universities establish elite environments and specific elite study programmes • Study programmes at elite level should be supplemented with increased taximeters and student grants • Individual courses at elite level - more lessons, higher demands, entrance restrictions etc.

  5. Tuition fees • Tuition at Danish universities is free for EU/EEA citizens • Students from non-EU/EEA countries will have to pay tuition fees from August 2006 • Fees range from 5,000 to 15,000 € per academic year • Tuition fees at the University of Aarhus: • € 9,100 / 15,300 per academic year • and Tuition Waiver program

Research funding • The Danish Government proclaims that Denmark will reach the Barcelona goal in 2010 – 1 % of GNP will go to public research (17 billion DKK) • Current level of investments is 9.5 billion DKK • Additional investment - in billion DKK: • 2007: 1 • 2008: 2 • 2009: 3.3 • 2010: 4.6 • The universities aim at full cost funding and 60 % overhead on all Research Councils projects

Cooperation with German institutions • No formal cooperation between the Danish Rectors’ Conference and German institutions - only with the HRK • Danish universities cooperate with German institutions in various fields • The University of Aarhus (AU): • 90 departmental Socrates agreements with 40 German universities (2006/07) • Student exchange 2003-2006: • From Germany to AU: 189 From AU to Germany: 127
