  4. Think about these questions: What do you want recess/break time/lunch to be like for your students? What do you want recess/break time/lunch to be like for you? What are some challenges in your job you would like to be able to handle better?

  5. For maximum growth… All people should be treated with dignity and respect. Based on the work of Adler and Dreikurs

  6. Activity: Grade-level Developmental Profiles By Yourself With Your Group Discuss what you’ve read. Compare the information with what you know about the students you supervise. On the poster paper, create a group profile. Use just one word to describe your group. Add pictures and symbols. No outlines, sentences, or “serious school work” kind of stuff. Be creative! • Skim over the developmental patterns for your age group. • Highlight the characteristics that you feel are critical to understanding children at that age.

  9. What We See What We Don’t See: Mistaken Beliefs Behind the Behavior

  10. Misbehavior -- when not developmentally normal — occurs when a person has a mistaken belief about belonging and significance. Jane Nelson Positive Discipline

  11. Be Patient/Plan “Impatience to solve a challenge immediately may prevent preparing the ground for a sound solution.” Rudolf Dreikurs

  12. Activity:Dealing with Our ‘Weeds’ Pick your most vexing challenge. Use the Mistaken Goal Chart: Note how you feel when confronted with this challenge (Column 2). Note how you usually react to this challenge (Column 3). Note the usual response of ‘the weed’ to your reaction (Column 4). Use the rest of the chart to lead you to some proactive and empowering choices.

  14. Manage by walking around!

  15. Experiment Reminders Let your breath be your anchor. “What went well today?” Build great relationships, especially with your ‘weeds.’ Avoid arguing!
