10 Resources for Breathtaking and Free Stock Photos • A picture speaks louder than a thousand words. Every site uses imagery in some form or another. A couple of good photos can really change the way a web page feels. Nowadays there is so much vivid imagery available for free online, a huge leap from the sterile stock photos that were once the standard. • Where do you find great stock photos though? You can often get them for free, but you have to be aware of the implications. Legally speaking, free photos will either fall under public domain or the creative commons license. Even then, some authors might request credit for their work.
10 Resources for Breathtaking and Free Stock Photos Thankfully, you don’t have to do all the legal research by yourself. There are plenty of sites featuring amazing visual resources for free. To help you find the best free stock photos around, we’ve made a list of our ten favorites with a short summary and link to each one:
1-2) Unsplash and Re:splashed • To start us off, https://unsplash.com/ is a site where you can find photos that are beautiful in their cleanliness. Simple yet very compelling images of landscapes, workplaces, animals and food can be found here. Honorable mention to http://www.resplashed.com/ which uses the same images with a better search engine and overall faster loading times.
3) Pixabay • http://pixabay.com/ offers a lot of eye candy. Not only does it have thousands of amazing images, it is also searchable. The site has categories like editor’s choice that can help you get straight to the best of the best.
4) Superfamous • Mountains, bodies of water, skies, forests - http://superfamous.com/ is a great resource for nature photos. Remind yourself and your customers of the astonishing visuals our planet provides.
5) Getrefe • Some of the most impressive photos on http://getrefe.tumblr.com/ are stunning urban photos taken by artists travelling around Europe. It also has most other image types available.
6) Picography • http://picography.co/ is one of those sites with a relatively small gallery, but it has some real gems stashed away in there. The originality of the images found there is amazing.
7) FreeImages • One of the oldest stock photo sites, http://www.freeimages.com/ has tons of things available, is searchable and has a great breakdown on all image rights. The sheer amount of resources this site offers makes it worth a visit.
8) Little Visuals • http://littlevisuals.co/ unfortunately no longer gets updates, but it still has around 100 breathtaking photos to choose from. Most of them feature landscapes or simplistically beautiful backgrounds.
9) Gratisography • If you’re looking for photos with a touch for the humorous, there are plenty of images that will make you smile over at http://www.gratisography.com/. It has the rare combination of funny and extremely professional photos, definitely worth checking out.
10) New Old Stock • Are you looking for old, black and white pictures of times long past? http://nos.twnsnd.co/ is a place you should visit. The pictures on this site are definitely niche products, but they’re as interesting as they come.
