Alison Brown In the summer of 1978, a month after graduating from high school, Alison Brown took first prize at the Canadian National Banjo Championship – by the time Alison Krauss asked her to join Union Station in the late 1980s, Brown had an illustrious decade of solo performing behind her. Today she heads the Nashville-based music label Compass Records while performing internationally.
Keith Little and Molly Tuttle The first annual award was taken home by Molly Tuttle, the tremendous young flat-picker who has appeared at FreshGrass in many guises, and the legendary multi-instrumentalist Keith Little, who since the 1970s has been a key member of bands including Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder and the Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band. They join forces for a special duo set of originals and traditionals.
The Whiskey Treaty Roadshow Local favorites The Whiskey Treaty Roadshow makes its triumphant return to FreshGrass, this year with a main stage set. The five Massachusetts singer-songwriters who make up this collaborative band bring something special to it, and together they have a unique chemistry – their foot-stomping folk rock and big-hearted sing-alongs never fail to bring a crowd to its feet.
Molsky’s Mountain Drifters Bruce Molsky is “one of America’s premier fiddle talents” (Mother Jones) and a GRAMMY-nominated songwriter with a deep history of bluegrass and roots explorations. His latest project brings aboard guitarist Stash Wyslouch and banjoist Allison de Groot to form Molsky’s Mountain Drifters, a laser-tight trio with an ear for lovely, lilting traditionals.
Yonder Mountain String Band This beloved Colorado-based progressive bluegrass outfit, Yonder Mountain String Band, went through a lineup shake-up in 2014 when founding guitarist Adam Aijala, banjo player Dave Johnston, and bassist Ben Kaufmann recruited the blindingly talented Allie Kral (violin) and Jacob Jolliff (mandolin).,
