  2. Korpitien Koulu in a Nutshell • The schoolconsists of the 9-year comprehensiveschool (ages 7-15) includingprimaryschool and lowersecondaryschool. In addition, optionalpre-school (class 0) is connectedwithclass 1. • The students of the uppersecondaryschool (ages 16-18) alsooperate in the sameschoolbuilding.

Principal Veikko Kärki and Vice-principal Eija Alasalmi • Number of comprehensiveschoolpupils: 332 • Number of teachers: 36 - specialneedseducationteachers (altogether 18 pupils in smallgroups) - schoolcouncellor • Classsize: 18-29 pupils • Studentswelfaregroupattendsonce a month. Psychologists and social workersareavailable. • Staffincludes a schoolclerk, a schoolnurse, teachingassistants, ITC-support, cleaning and kitchenstaff and janitors. (Schoolnurseavailablefourdays a week.) • Freeschoolluncheveryday. • 1/3 pupilsaretransported to school.

Educational Philosophy • To teach the pupils skills and knowlegde necessary in life. • To support the development of pupils as human beings, and their growth into ethically responsible members of society. • To strengthen pupils’ self-confidence. • To guide pupils to take up a positive attitude towards studying and create a sense of responsibility for their own actions.

  9. Information and CommunicationTechnology Schoolhas a wirelessinternetconnection (threemovablecomputerunitswith 20 laptops). A Multimedia LCD projector, a laptop, a tv, a radio, and a video in everyclassroom. Everyteacherhas a laptop and therearecomputers for studentsaround the schoolpremises. Pupilsalsohave a chance to usedigital and video cameras in schoolprojects. Schoolhas a specialroom for picture and soundediting. In February 2011 schoolstartsusingspecialcomputer software to make the co-operationbetweenteachers and parentsmoreeffective.
