Moonsplash Honor Roll Moonsplash started as an annual island showcase for Bankie Banx, and included local acts including longtime performer Kinayah. In the early years, several of Bankie’s friends in the business made cameo appearances at the festival. As momentum grew, Moonsplash became the festival that consistently provided headlining acts to the region. Although the festival has a reggae flavor, the performers have come from diverse musical genres. Why Moonsplash? Part I Moonsplash is hosted annually at the Dune Preserve on Anguilla around the March full moon. Moonsplash serves an important function of exposing the Anguillian community to a wide variety of excellent live music performances. The festival also brings vital tourism activity to the island each year. Our estimates show that for every $1 brought in at the gates of Moonsplash events, the festival generates $17 in the local tourism sector, and $2 to the general Anguillian economy.
Why Moonsplash? Part II Beyond the economic impact on Anguilla, Moonsplash is most proud of it’s legacy of social consciousness. Through it’s relationship with The Anguilla National Trust, The Anguilla Tennis Academy, and the newly created Project Stingray – Moonsplash is raising awareness of vital issues on Anguilla. Through the Anguilla National Trust, Moonsplash is bringing the issue of coastal conservation into the public consciousness of Anguilla. Due to the effects of sand dredging and shoreline construction, many of the sand dunes that once lined the beaches of Anguilla have been destroyed. Although the beaches remain clean and beautiful, the absence of sand dunes increases the potential impact of hurricane storm surges. “Reggae ambassadors, the Third World Band and roots rock reggae dynamo, Culture will this year headline Anguilla's long-running music festival, Moonsplash. The weekend festival, which runs from April 1 to 4, will also feature Jamaican Benjy Myaz.” – Jamaica Observer - March 15, 2004 Bankie has performed in support of the Anguilla Tennis Academy at the Country Across America spotlight on Anguilla, in February 2005 and again at the Country Music Festival on Anguilla in July 2005. Both events featured country stars and songwriters from Nashville, TN. As seen internationally on the Great American Country Television Network. Bankie attended and performed at the Wise Coastal Practices Conference hosted by The Department of Physical Planning and the Anguilla National Trust. – September 14, 2000 – www.unesco.org
Why Moonsplash? Part III The Anguilla Tennis Academy - through sport - and Project Stingray - through music – provide youth on the island creative alternatives to crime and violence. The Anguilla Tennis Academy provides tennis instruction and builds self esteem among youngsters on the island. Project Stingray provides productive alternatives to crime and violence for children on Anguilla through music education. ___________________________________________________________________________ Bankie Banx’s Fall 2005 tour of the United States promoted the Moonsplash 2005 Festival, tourism on Anguilla, and raised funds for the Project Stingray Program. Bankie’s Fall Tour and Moonsplash 2005 aim to raise enough funds to purchase 100 acoustic guitars for youth on the island. 9/9/05 – Last Concert Café, Houston, TX 9/10/05 – Last Concert Café, Houston, TX 9/15/05 – Simon Grill & Bar, Hard Rock Hotel, Las Vegas, NV 9/22/05 – The Blue Lemon Restaurant, West Port, CT 9/23/05 – The Canal Room, New York, NY 9/24/05 – 2nd Annual Mac Splash, Bucks County, PA 9/25/05 – World Café Live, Philadelphia, PA 9/29/05 – Music for Everyone Benefit, Lancaster, PA 10/5/05 – The Basement, Nashville, TN 10/9/05 – The Cove, Satellite Beach, FL

Festival Performers Slightly Stoopid - Boasting dual front men, Slightly Stoopid possesses a unique dynamic and kinship. They share a multitude of influences, from the acoustic leanings of Cat Stevens, Tom Petty, Django Reinhardt, and the Grateful Dead, to old school reggae and dub artists Augustus Pablo, Lee Scratch Perry, Yellowman, and UB40. In addition, their more modern influences such as Sublime, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Wyclef Jean certainly shine through, and hint towards the band becoming the natural heir to the close-knit musical lineage which spawned them.

Festival Host Bankie Banx - Bankie's sound has been described as a cross between Bob Marley and Bob Dylan, and his music a blend of folk, reggae, R&B and jazz, but Bankie’s music transcends traditional boundaries. Bankie has quietly amassed quite an impressive resume, that has elevated him to legend status within the reggae community. Bankie is regarded by his peers as one of the elite songwriters of this generation. Beginning with his first number one hit in 1977, and followed by several chart topping songs over the next few years, Bankie joined an elite fraternity. Bankie performed at Reggae Sunsplash in 1983 and again in 1992. He was featured during a live Sunsplash performance in the ground breaking reggae documentary "Cool Runnings." Bankie’s 1977 release Roots & Herbs pioneered reggae music in the Eastern Caribbean, and his 2003 release Chariots of Steel featuring Cat Coore and Benjy Myaz has been called the most innovative reggae album in years. Featuring the 30th Anniversary Reunion of Roots & Herbs – Eastern Caribbean Reggae Pioneers
Featured Artist India Arie - Learned the transforming power of music early in life, encouraged by both parents -- her mother, Simpson, herself a former singer, and now Arie's stylist, and her father, basketball star Ralph Simpson. She had taken up a succession of musical instruments throughout her schooling in Denver, Colorado, but it was her discovery of the guitar at college in Savannah, Georgia, that inspired her to write and perform. After co-founding an Atlanta-based independent music collective, Arie contributed a song to a locally released compilation, which led to a second-stage gig at Lilith Fair. There, a Universal/Motown music scout spotted her and made an introduction to Motown CEO Kedar Massenburg. Arie's 2001 debut, Acoustic Soul, earned her seven Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist, and Record, Song and Album of the Year -- the most of any solo artist that year. During that time India.Arie joined veteran roots-rocker John Mellencamp for a duet on "Peaceful World," collaborated with Cassandra Wilson on "Just Another Parade," and wrote the heartbreaking "Good Man" for We Were Soldiers. Arie's follow-up, Voyage to India, came out in 2002. India is firmly entrenched as one of the most influential artists of this generation with multiple Grammy Award nominations.
