Warm-Up • Name Grid Word Scramble • Groups of 4. • Write your names in the name grid. • You can use all of the letters from the grid (with all four names) to create as many English words (or verbs, or adjectives, etc…) as possible • You have three minutes from when I say go. • When you hear “stop” count the total number of words and calculate their point values. • Prizes for mostcreative, mostwords, & most points

Let’s Practice… • Activity 1: Pair teach your word to the class using one of the methods(step 1) along with the first three steps of Marzano’s method (Description(Tt)/restate (ss)/drawing). • Activity 2: Student Files: Give advice to help the student learn vocabulary
Ch.10 Review Passing Slips • Your group will receive a slip with a topic from ch. 10 • Discuss for 3 minutes • Pass the slip to the group to your right and discuss again with your new slip.
Wrap-up & Homework.. • Read chapter 11 –Grammar: Finding a Balance • Finish Portfolio Task 9 • Journal Entry- reflect on the way in which you teach vocabulary. How do you introduce new words? What strategies do you use provide opportunities for repetition and practice? Why do you use these particular strategies?
