What is Intute: Health and Life Sciences? • Intute is a freequality assured information and training resource, guiding you to useful Web resources for education and research • Each resource is evaluated using evaluation guidelines • Intute : Health and Life Sciences covers a broad subject area - clinical medicine, nursing, midwifery and allied health, biological research, natural history, agriculture, food & forestry, and veterinary medicine
Intute one year on….. • Intute launched in July 2006 (replacing RDN) • Intute HLS replaced BIOME and is based at University of Nottingham • Intute has over 115,000 resources and is aimed at both HE and FE • Intute HLS has over 33,000 resources • Intute consists of four main subject groups – HLS, Social Sciences, Science, Engineering and Technology, and Arts and Humanities
Network of specialists • Intute is a consortium of seven universities, 70 partner institutions • Distributed national team of content providers • Creating, reviewing, maintaining the Internet Resource Catalogue (IRC) • Quality assured content developed by the community for the community
Searching Intute : Health and Life Sciences Search the catalogue • Over 33,000 records, each one hand selected and described by a subject specialist • Simple keyword or phrase searching • Refine your search by type of resource • Simple or Advanced searching options
Harvesting records Harvester to broaden your searches • Searches for health and life science related pages • Automatically generated from the web addresses in the main Intute catalogue • Updated monthly • Remember – records retrieved from the harvester have not been evaluated
Browsing Intute : Health and Life Sciences Browse the catalogue by controlled keywords • CAB – veterinary, agriculture, food and forestry • RCN – nursing, midwifery and allied health • MeSH – medicine, nursing, midwifery and allied health, biological research, bioethics, medical history, public engagement with science Browse the catalogue by subject headings • Natural History and Psci-com – both utilise classification schedules and broad subject headings
