Northern part of AFI Region, suffers the consequences of the ArabSpring: Politicalinstability Security problems Economiccrisisbothlocally and regionally (Europe) Airlines are made vulnerable by the combinedeffect of a decrease in activity and dramaticrise of costs (social, fuel, etc.) Pressure made by some Gulf Airlines, on new governments of the region, to grab some markets where local Airlines are vulnerable. Pilot associations can play a decisive role AFI Region

  3. The followingproblem areas wereidentified: ineffective communication infrastructure and poor coordination proceduresbetween ATS units. ATC proficiency and a urgent need for continuation/recurrent training Lack of coordination betweenFIRs, sectors and withinunits Staffinglevels Need for investment in infrastructure and people Performance Based Navigation: Establishment of the AfricanRegion (AFI) Flight Procedure Programme (FPP), thatwillfoster all aspects of PBN implementationincluding training, procedure design, validation and quality assurance, airspace design, and operationalapproval January 2014 : Commencement of full operations AFI Region

Middle East: The politicalcontextisquitesimilar to the Northern part of Africa (Syria, Iraq, etc. ) Bigconcerns about the overflying of Baghdad and SyrianFIRs Gulf region: Continousgrowthathuge rate, Urgent need to manage airspace in a flexible manner. We are watching the young Gulf citizensinterested in our jobs. I invite you to discuss this matter and many other issues at the AFI MID Regional Meeting to be held on Saturday MID Region
