ADRICOSM-EXT River Ishem The hydrographic catchment of Ishmi river has a total area of 673 km2. It has a total length of about 75 km and an average elevation 357 km. The Ishmi river is formed by three main rivers Tirana river, Tercuza river and Zeza river. The principal branch of Ishmi river is Tirana river with a length of 35 km , which collect the water of Lana river and Limuthi branch. The main river Ishem is formed downstream Tirana city. ADRICOSM-EXT Ishmi is the most polluted river in Albania
ADRICOSM-EXT Tirana city Tirana is the capital of Albania. Included surrounding villages, Tirana counts in total about 800.000 inhabitants among which about 520 000 are located in Tirana Municipality. The surface extension of the city is 1238 km2
ADRICOSM-EXT Two relevant rivers cross the city; the Lana River and the Tirana river. Those two water bodies meet the main Ishem River downstream of Tirana city. Point when Tirana river join Lana river
ADRICOSM-EXT The sewer system of Tirana is mainly characterized by a combined network. Considering that a Waste Water Treatment Plant is not present, the sewerage is continuously discharged in the receiving water of River Tirana and Lana. This operational situation, together with the heavy load that is discharged during rain events from CSOs (Combine Sewer Overflows), determines significant environmental impacts on the water quality of the surrounding surface waters. Discharge points
ADRICOSM-EXT The sewer system is composed by 4 main collectors that bring water toward the western part of the city. 2 main collectors’ flow parallel to Lana River (Lana River South and Lana River North) and another one is located along the Tirana River bank. The fourth important collector brings sewerage from the eastern part of the center area to the western watersheds and then discharge directly in the Tirana River.
ADRICOSM-EXT Task 2.2 Data Collection and Database Implementation Responsible: HMI Participant:SGI Collection of all existing data for the pilot site Organize these data into a relational database and GIS

ADRICOSM-EXT Existing data on the hydrograph basin are collected and organized in a data-base suitable for models representation. First stage was characterized by the acquisition of existing data to represent the integrated river catchment and understand the operational details and boundary condition. Second stage was focused on the acquisition of all projects and studies already carried out Field visit were carried out at particular “hot spots” of the system, such as sewer outlets, CSO and river cross sections. The GIS of the study area in ArcView format and the background maps of Tirana Municipality scale 1:5000 has been acquired.
