What to do in the AT clinic contribute
Laundry • Dirty clothes • Cup of detergent • Keys • Possibly pillow case or purple cubbies • Set timer to return to finish or tell someone to. • Whirlpools • Clean & close • 2-3 mediums of ice • Fill half way (do not leave unattended) • Practice/Game Set Up • Check schedule &/or ATC for what is happening. • Critically think about what should be out there. • Confirm with ATC or 3rdyr if not confident • Walk/cart supplies out to playing surface • Set up sideline • Filing* • ‘To Be Filed’ bin: • Current physical in very front • Current IQ in very back • ‘New File’ bin: • Grab new/un-used file • Put name on blank tab or make blank with labels (last name, first name graduation year) • File paperwork in created file • File in cabinets • Check other duties • White board to the left of bathroom door • Physically go through and check that everything has been done. • If not done, do! Daily duties(ESPECIALLY ON ‘A’ DAYS!!!)
Taping: On non-varsity athletes • Simple wrist (all) • Rodeo (if learned) • Hand/wrist (if learned) • Check taping stations • Replace supplies before they run out. • Make sure you are pulling them from the correct spot. • Wound Care (all) • If not sure what to you, ask! Don’t make this a reason to shy away. • Rolling out athletes (all) • You get the roller and you put away • Learning/Assisting with rehab (all) • Ask 3rdyr or ATC what they are doing • Hold bands • Be a timer Helping athletes/SAT’s(Be confident!)
Keep AT clinic clean. • Wipe counters. • Put rehab equipment away • Clean tables • Etc. • Go to a practice. • Inform ATC where you intend to go. • AT clinic rules apply (no phones). • Can study or practice skills but make sure you are out of the way. • Come up with a “Toes to Nose” song. • Help athlete dorsiflex during ankle tape. • Study • Written test • Skills (new and old) • Learn something new. • Ask ATC/3r yrs for new tape, wrap, stretch, rehab, etc. • What do you want to know about; make this experience yours! • AT clinic games. • Scavenger hunts • Time trials • Quiz Show When athletes leave.
Stand around, doing nothing! • Especially right in front of a taping station. • Socialize with athletes • Prohibits rehab, treatments, etc. • Encourages hanging out. • Wait for other SAT to finish hours • Too many people to begin with • Contribute or wait outside • Count hours. • Wait for a better time like when all athletes are gone. • Be on your phone • You will be asked to leave and you will not get signed off. • Don’t think of it as “doing time!” Think of it as a ‘lab’ where we perfect skills and learn stuff. What not to do.
