The Building Industry – A Global View Buildings CONSUME • 40% of the world’s raw resources (3 billion tons) • 15% of its fresh water • 40% of its energy • 50% of the timber harvest
The Building Industry – A Global View Buildings PRODUCE • 40% of solid waste to landfill • 40% of harmful air emissions • 35% of the world’s CO2 emissions
Evaporation (20%) Convection (35%) Radiation (45%) Thermal Comfort Productivity and Comfort • Productivity Factors: • Comfort • Responsiveness • Ability to influence • Indoor air quality • Proximity to views • Natural daylight • Comfort is not just air temperature.
Expandable Building • Pier B current build is first stage. • Services and structure installed ready for next addition. • New terminal arrivals area also ready for expansion.
MARS Gate (Multiple Aircraft Ramping System) • Two air bridges provided. • Allows two Code Caircraftto dock at the same gate. • Minimises new build to provide increased gate capacity. • Requires increased security door configuration.
GPUs (Ground Power Units) • GPU powers the aircraft while on the stand, negating the need to run aircraft engines. • Reduced: • Fuel consumption • Fuel emissions • Noise • Aircraft maintenance costs • Per passenger costs
PCAs (Pre Conditioned Air) • PCA ventilates, cools, dehumidifies, filters and heats air entering the aircraft while on the stand. • Aircraft engines can remain off. • Combined with GPUs • reduced fuel emissions of 198 tonnes/annum • Forecast $8M, 1 year payback
LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) • LEED is the US Green Building Council’s building rating system. • Pier B aims to be the first LEED accredited airport project outside of North America. • LEED provides 3rd party verification that Pier B meets the highest green building and operational standards. • Ensures water and energy conservation, reduced green house gas emissions and waste to landfill, healthier environments for all occupants.
LEED – Credit Categories (Available Points) • Sustainable Sites (14) • Water Efficiency (5) • Energy & Atmosphere (17) • Materials & Resources (13) • Indoor Environmental Quality (15) • Innovation & Design Process (5) • Total of 69 Possible Points.
