The MSC is an area, 15 Km by 50 Km, encompassing the Kuala Lumpur City Center (KLCC) in the north, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in the south.
Multimedia Super Corridor MSC provides an infrastructure for companies to develop, distribute and use multimedia products and services. MSC would become the catalyst for Malaysia to become a developed nation by the year 2020.
Important Elements in MSC 1. The best physical infrastructure in the world. Example KLCC, Cyberjaya and KLIA. 2. Provides policy and regulations for intellectual property, digital signature, computer crime and electronic government.
Important Elements in MSC 3. Information infrastructure which has a capacity of 2.5 - 10 Gigabits/second using digital fiber optics. 4.Multimedia Development Corp. (MDC) as a one stop agency to manage and market MSC.
MSC Implementation Phases The MDC envisions a 20-year time-frame for the full implementation and execution of the MSC. There will be 3 phases of activity Phase I Make MSC a success by learning from Malaysian partners. Attract a core group of world-class companies. Launch seven Flagship Applications.
Phase II MDC envisages that during this period, it will link the MSC to other cybercities in Malaysia and the world. It will create a web of corridors and establish a second cluster of world-class companies. It will also set a global standards in flagship applications, champion cyberlaws, and establish globally- linked intelligent cities.
Phase III In this final phase, it is expected that Malaysia will be transformed into a knowledge-based society. MSC will become a global test bed for new multimedia and IT applications. MSC will have a cluster of intelligent cities linked to the global information super highway, and become the platform for the International Cybercourt of Justice.
