Modelling for the Little Ones can be Fun Modelling has created wonderful opportunities for hundreds of thousands of talented people to work, to shine, to be remembered, the last few decades. It is a very lucrative industry for all of the important role players such as models, casting agencies and production companies that are involved. This is an industry, similar to other sectors of the entertainment industry where thousands of actors, dancers, and extras find work every day doing what they love and feel a passion for that can, for many, guarantee a career and income for life – and the recognition they may be looking for. Of course these industries provide work for adults and fun opportunities for children – even babies – that do not necessarily rely on regular income; however, it often creates the first opportunities for the little ones’ piggy bank to benefit. Models and other entertainers work in this industry because they can make good money but also because it offers them many additional opportunities to travel, to see places, to experience new cultures – to do what they love. In terms of modelling work for the little ones, the motivation may be different insofar as a career is concerned or in terms of the need for financial gain. But, the little ones may get the kind of exposure that opens up other possibilities for them when they are older or grown- up. Many babies go on to do more modelling during their teenage years, for example. As is the case with the adult market, modelling for babies offers numerous great opportunities and many loving, proud mothers are willing to give it a go-toto see how well baby performs. The emphasis for the baby, always, is and should be on fun. Normally parents understand that and make sure they take heed of the advice of others such as moms with experience in this regard, and from industry professionals. A few tips for those parents that want to see how their babies and little kids do in terms of modelling: First, do a try-out at home; ask someone else – not someone the baby or little one knows well – to come around and hold the baby, and even leave them alone for a while. Test your baby’s reaction to see how he/she would fare with others in an unknown environment; If you feel confident that the baby reacts well to “strangers”, then start looking for a good agency to represent you and your baby. Look around, talk to others with experience, look at the press, the internet. Good agencies are those with other babies on their database, firms offering ample previous experience in finding babies modelling work;
Exercise patience, both in terms of waiting to be contacted and during castings. It can be tiring for the little ones. Understand that you need to keep them happy during these times: keep them entertained with enough snacks and toys to play with while you’re waiting; Be flexible: remember that some jobs require of parents and babies to be available at short notice. Allow for this possibility; Remain calm for the baby’s sake. If the child senses you are nervous or uncomfortable, castings may become unpleasant, and so will the actual jobs; Above all: enjoy it and have fun. Babies grow up and before you know it, this fun experience will no longer exist. The above are a few tips for baby modelling. Of course, a lot applies to modelling for other kids and teenagers – even grownups. Modelling creates wonderful opportunities to carve a good career, to experience wonderful times, and to earn good money. A word of advice: it is tough to go it alone.
