Plot Fortunato is chained to the wall. Climax Montressor and Fortunato are heading towards the area where the Amontillado is supposedly held. The whole way down Montressor is keeping Fortunato drunk and urging him to go back. Falling Action Montressor seals off Fortunato by putting up a wall. Rising Action Montressor and Fortunato are introduced and the basic conflict Fortunato is left to die. Exposition Dénouement Literary Devices: Symbolism- the Montressor Coat of Arms- Fortunato is the snake and Montressor is the foot stomping on the snake symbolizing that Montressor is going to defeat Fortunato.
