  1. Passing A Bill (Federal Parliament) By Georgette

  2. First Reading The minister introduces the bill in the House of Representatives. The minister then delivers the speech in the chamber.

  3. Second Reading In the second reading, the members of the Federal Parliament explain why their team supports or opposes the bill. The members of the House of Representatives then focus on the main idea of the bill. The debate senators speak for up to 20 minutes about the main idea of the bill in the House of Representatives. When debate is over, the bill is put to a vote in the House of Representatives. The senator may then call a division.

  4. Third Reading The third reading is when the House of Representatives has agreed on the bill, and any amendments.

  5. Governor The bill is then passed by the House of Representatives and the senate. They give it to the Governor-General, so he/she can put a royal assent on the bill.

  6. Senate The Senate basically does all of the 3 things again, to just give the Governor-General the bill, so he/she can put the royal assent.
