Mapuche • The Mapuche are a group of Indians Native to Chile. They have been around since Spain conquered Chile. With the new colonization the Mapuche migrated east to the Andes mountains. The Mapuche fought many wars over territory. ( Ex: the Battle of the Maule against the Inca) The Mapuche still roam Chile and keep most of their traditions.
Some Current Events… MhmXD Chile Quake Is One of the Biggest in a Century. • In 2010, an earthquake struck near Chile’s coast at a magnitude of 8.8. In Copiapo, Chile, 33 miners were buried alive for about two months as an effect of the earthquake. Chile donates land for world’s largest optical telescope. • The Foreign Ministry of Chile signed over 213 square miles of land to the European Organization for Astronomical Research. They are working on building the largest optical telescope on the Southern Hemisphere.
