  5. YES! Pay attention to the hot spots!

  8. If you measure the miles, you miss the moments.

  9. The Point: bucks and bodies are not the best metrics for a spiritual community any more than the Camino is about distance.

  10. Shifting the metrics is key to the future of being church.

  11. It’s the difference between lag and lead metrics.

  12. A lagmeasure is something that has already happened by the time you get the data. By this point there is nothing you can do to change the outcome.

  13. Leadmeasures are the indicators that leaders strategically set with the potential for changing the lag metric.

  14. Examples of a lagmeasure: At Church… How many people are here? How much money did people give? At Home… What is my report card grade? How many books did I read this year? How often is my house clean? How much do I weigh?

  15. Examples of leadmeasures to SHIFT the lag metric: At Church… Are you praying more often at home? At work? Are you inviting friends, neighbors and coworkers to share a meal with you more often?

  16. Examples of leadmeasures to SHIFT the lag metric: At Home… Am I studying? Going to class? How much time do I commit to reading? What is each person doing to help? What time will I walk today?

  17. Turn and Talk (pg.9)

  22. Test with an experiment. • What will you try? • How can you involve stakeholders? • What is the lag metric you want to shift?
