Introduction to social networking • What does social networking mean to you?
Social networking • Social networking mainly focuses upon building online communities for people that share common interests and activities. Most social networking sites are internet based and present a lot of ways for users to interact, such as through chartrooms, e-mails and instant messaging.
Social networking • Social Networking has given birth to newer ways to communicate and share information across the web and these sites are being used habitually by millions of people globally.
Identify different social network sites • Look at five different types of social networking web sites • Discuss in your group how these social networking groups interact online. What services do they offer to a customer? Is the tool freely available or costly? • Can you advertise through their website? • What would you hope to achieve by using a social networking site to market a product? • What are the advantages of using a social networking site to advertise a product? • Write your answers down.
Promoting online market for a media product • From the research gathered earlier: • What are the benefits of using online marketing tools? Explain what you have learned about these tools so far? (please explain in your own words) • How would a social networking site help boost your companies image and profile? • Would you consider using a social network to market your potential media product? • As a consumer are you influenced by products that are advertised and marketed on social networking sites that you use and why? • Can you think of any potential drawbacks of using social networks to market and advertise products?
