  3. Rash: papulesvesicles (dermatomal) Acute neuritis Zoster sine herpete ? Postherpetic neuralgia Herpes zoster ophthalmicus Acute retinal necrosis Ramsay Hunt Syndrome (herpes zoster oticus) Aseptic meningitis Encephalitis Peripheral motor neuropathy Myelitis Stroke syndromes Disseminated VZV Secondary Manifestations

  4. Treatment • Acyclovir IV • Valacyclovir (Valtrex) po • Best within 48 hrs of rash • Foscarnet IV • Prevention: varicella vaccine (Varivax, 1995), shingles vaccine (Zostavax, 2006)
