  2. Facts • Bipolar disorder affects roughly 5.7 million adults. • Bipolar disease is also known as maniac depressive disorder • Bipolar disorder can affect relationships, jobs, and school performance

  3. Signs and Symptoms • People who suffer from bipolar disorder experience intense emotional states or “mood episodes” • Extreme sadness could be a depressive episode • Over joy could be considered a maniac episode

  4. Treatments • There is no official cure for bipolar disorder cut it can be controlled by using medications such as lithium, valporic acid, or lamictal

  5. Managing the illness • Many doctors recommend counseling to help control their mood swings • Also medications might be prescribed to help control the mood swings
