Why do you need influencers? • Ideate content • Qualify content • Contextualizecontent • Create content • Find distribution venues • Distribute content • Amplify distribution • Reach • Engage • Amplify • Letting influencers do what they’re good at • Enroll others into promoting or messaging ideas • Vetting “big ideas” • Vetting a new segment (is it a real pain point, new industry subject area, etc.) • Adding a more human touch to materials
Why would they share? • Integrity • Credibility • Relevance • Novelty • Quality • Trust • Referral (who’s passing it along) • Availability (don’t ask to share a link behind a paywall) • Save time • What else?
Don’t ask for a favor, give first • Share their content • Tweet / post their links • Leave comments on their blog • Leave messages on FB/G+ pages and LinkedIn • Research whether they allow guest posts and submit something • Start social media conversations so that they start to wonder who you are • Excerpting their content on your blog • Pointing out explicity to the influencer about doing it • Ask their permission to use their content • Remind that you will link back (adds support / respect) • Remind them that comments on your site end up outside their blog (but when a new comment arrives, let them know)
Influence how? • Talk about you at a conference • Write a blog post about you • Tweet or share LinkedIn/other links about you • Show up in a video • Allow you to guest post on their site • Write white papers under their brand for you • Extend authority through… • What else?
