  2. Basic types of web editors Web page editors can be divided into two basic groups: • WYSWIG HTML Editors(What You See Is What You Get – they offer ‘visual’ tools) • HTML Code Editors(they are text editors – they simplify the drugery of working on HTML code) CNET Review of web editing software

  3. WYSWIG HTML EditorsExamples • Microsoft Front Page (150$) • Macromedia Dreamweaver (350$) • Adobe Go Live (400$) • Namo WebEditor (100$) and (without serious functionality) • Microsoft Word (in a package) • Microsoft Publisher (150$)

  4. WYSWIG HTML EditorsFront Page 2002 Front Page offers editing and formatting tools standard for Microsoft Office. The toolbars look familiar to anyone who worked with Word.

  5. WYSWIG HTML EditorsFront Page 2002 Front Page offers an intuitive web site management system, easy updating and restructuring of any web service

  6. WYSWIG HTML EditorsNamo WebEditor Namo WebEditor offers tools very similar to Front Page but is more flexible – if you can code HTML it has much better tools.

  7. WYSWIG HTML EditorsNamo WebEditor Namo WebEditor has a Site Manager which, similarly to Front Page, can significantly help in managing a web service.

  8. WYSWIG HTML EditorsMicrosoft Word Micorsoft Word is easy and surprisingly flexible in creating pretty complex web pages. However, the pages it produces are overloaded with unnecessary code and thus very slow.

  9. HTML Code EditorsExamples • Homesite (100$) • Hot Dog Professional (80$) • ScriptWorx (60$) • Handy HTML (30$) • Pajaczek 2000 (30$) – in Polish • 1st Page 2000 (free)

  10. HTML Code Editors1st Page 2000 1st Page 2000 requires at least basic knowledge of HTML and patience! It is, however, very flexible, reliable and packed with features.

  11. HTML Code EditorsPajaczek 2000 Pajaczek 2000 similarly to 1st Page 2000 requires at least basic knowledge of HTML and a lot of patience! It is an excellent tool for writing scripts for WWW.

  12. SummaryWhat to choose? If you intend to study hard and learn HTML (and possibly its extended, flexible version XML) language and have a lot of time to craft your web pages go for 1st Page 2000 – it is free and very precise and gives you full control in the process of creating your web pages. If money is a consideration, but you are pretty sure your site will grow quickly and probably become unmanageable – choose Namo WebEditor or FrontPage. They are relatively inexpensive and intuitive. If you have very little time and patience and are not really hungry to know more – choose Microsoft Word.
