Core 40 Diploma • English • 3 English 9 • 2 English 10 • 2 English 11 • 2 English 12 • Math • 2 Algebra I • 2 Algebra II • 2 Geometry • Physical Education • 2 PE • 1 Health • Science • 2 Biology • 2 Chemistry or Physics or Integrated Chemistry/Physics • 2 Additional Science • Social Studies • 2 World History • 2 US History • 1 Government • 1 Economics • Directed Electives • 5 from World Languages, Fine Arts or Career/Technical • Electives • 13 from all areas (career sequence recommended)

  4. Core 40 Diploma • 48 minimum total credits required • All students must complete a math or physics course in their junior or senior year • Core 40 is the state’s default diploma • To graduate with less than a Core 40 diploma, the Indiana Department of Education requires a formal meeting between the student, parent and counselor during the student’s senior year

  5. C40 with Academic Honors • Complete all C40 requirements • Earn 2 additional C40 math credits (Pre Calculus, Statistics, Calculus or Finite Math) • Earn 6-8 Core 40 world language credits (6 credits in one language or 4 credits each in two languages) • Earn 2 Core 40 fine arts credits • Earn a grade of a “C-” or better in courses that will count toward the diploma • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (B) or higher

  6. C40 with Academic Honors • Complete one of the following: A. Complete AP courses (4 credits) and corresponding AP exams B. Earn a combined score of 1200 or higher on the SAT critical reading and mathematics C. Score a 26 or higher composite on the ACT D. Complete dual high school/college credit courses from an accredited postsecondary institution (6 transferable college credits) E. Complete a combination of AP courses (2 credits) and corresponding AP exams and dual high school/college credit course(s) from an accredited postsecondary institution (3 transferable college credits)

  7. C40 with Technical Honors • Complete all requirements for Core 40. • Complete a career-technical program (8 or more related credits) • Earn a grade of “C-” or better in courses that will count toward the diploma. • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (B) or better. • Recommended (not required): Earn 2 additional credits in mathematics and 4-8 credits in World Languages for four year college admission.

  8. C40 with Technical Honors • Complete two of the following, one must be A or B: A. Score at or above the following levels on WorkKeys: Reading for Information - Level 6; Applied Mathematics - Level 6; Locating Information - Level 5 B. Complete dual high school/college credit courses in a technical area (6 college credits) C. Complete a Professional Career Internship course (i.e. Senior Internship) or Cooperative Education course (2 credits) D. Complete an industry-based work experience as part of a two-year career-technical education program (minimum 140 hours) E. Earn a state-approved, industry-recognized certification (i.e. IT Essentials Workplace Certification)

  9. Earn College Credit in High school • Advanced Placement • Take an AP course • Take the AP test for the course which are in May • Score a 3,4 or 5 (for public universities) • $13-$86 per exam (Assistance available) • Exams required if being used for Academic Honors Diploma • Dual Credit • College Challenge (CC) through ISU • $25 per credit hour • Waived for those on Free/Reduced Lunch • Ivy Tech Dual Credit • Career Technical courses • No Fee • PSAT Scores may qualify you to receive dual credit • Accuplacer placement exam may be required • In order to receive credit you must complete paperwork, it is not automatic.

  10. Early graduation • In order to graduate early students must: • apply for early graduation 14 weeks before desired graduation date • meet all graduation requirements • have at least 48 credits • pass both the Algebra and English 10 ECAs See your counselor now if you are interested. Do not wait until next year.

  11. Work Release • B0266 – B0268 Business Cooperative Experience • You must be enrolled in Business Management II to take Business Cooperative Experience. • B0276 – B0278 Marketing Field Experience • Must earn three (3) Marketing credits in any beginning, intermediate or specialization Marketing courses before taking the Strategic Marketing/Marketing Field Experience course(s). **If taking Marketing Field Experience, then must take Strategic Marketing class concurrently. Sample Schedule 1 Core Class 2 Core Class 3 Marketing/BCE Class 4 Release time for work 5 Release time for work Work release requires a minimum of 2 trimesters. See your counselor now if you are interested. Do not wait until next year.

  12. Work Release: ICE • Interdisciplinary Cooperative Education (ICE) • Work experience must relate to career pathway • Classroom Portion: V1505-V1506 • Release time for work: V1508-V1509 • 2 credits per trimester for release time Sample Schedule 1 Core Class 2 Core Class 3 ICE Class 4 Release time for internship 5 Release time for internship ICE requires a minimum of 2 trimesters. See your counselor now if you are interested. Do not wait until next year.

  13. Career Exploration Senior Internship • 0522 – O 00871; 2 credits, offered only 3rd trimester of Senior Year. • Students will experience first-hand a career area that will provide the student with an opportunity to determine if this is a future career interest. • This is an unpaid experience. • Students must notify counselors prior to the beginning of next year if interested in pursuing a senior internship. See your counselor now if you are interested. Do not wait until next year.

College Admissions tests • SAT • Critical Reading • Mathematics • Writing • Scores range from 200-800 on each subtest • Fee Waivers • NCAA requires scores to be sent directly from CollegeBoard • 4 Free score reports • You have a CollegeBoard login already from PSAT My College Quick Start. Use this log in. Multiple log ins on the CollegeBoard website may cause a delay in score results. • ACT • English • Math • Reading • Science • Writing (Optional) • Scores range from 1-36 • Fee Waivers A photo must be uploaded on your admission ticket for each of these tests.

College Admissions tests • Differences: • SAT has a strong emphasis on vocabulary • The ACT has a Science Section, SAT does not • The ACT has more advanced math concepts including trigonometry • SAT has a required 25 minute writing section • ACT has an optional 30 minute writing section • ACT is content-based • SAT tests critical thinking and problem solving

The Application Process • Paper applications are a thing of the past! • Admissions page on website • ISU and Ivy Tech offer on-site admission at North each fall • Waive application fee • Immediate feedback on status and some scholarships • If needing recommendations, ask for them WEEKS in advance • Applications will require that you send a high school transcript and a Secondary School Report

CollegeVisits to North • Many colleges schedule visits to THN and you may sign up to see the college representatives. • A list is posted of colleges visiting….usually the visits begin in September and are continually schedule throughout the year. You may sign up to see the representatives in the Guidance Office. Mrs. Jaeger our Guidance Office receptionist is usually there for students to sign up to see college representatives. If she is not there, the lists are on the front desk and you may sign up on the college representatives list.

  31. CollegeVisits • Students are allowed to take 2 visits during junior year and 2 during senior year • Fall Break and Spring Break are also good times if you wish to take more • Colleges sometimes have designated visit days • Contact the Admissions Office to schedule an appointment

  32. How do I request My Transcript? • An official paper copy may be mailed via the school registrar by completing a request form – THIS is SLOW • Should request at least two weeks prior to the deadline • Preferred method is to use on-line system
