Assignments • Problem-based Case Study (25%) • A self-refectory Report (25%) • Group Project and Presentation (50%) Deadline: 14 April, 2010 (at the end of the tutorial) Late submitted: a grade will be deducted for a week Hardcopy: with the clear folder/ paper envelop (including the In-Class Exercises) Softcopy: Email to carmen_lai@ymail.com & paulw@hku.hk

Problem-based Case Study (25%) • Use the case provided to complete HELPING PLAN for the targeted person • Theories and Skills taught in this course • not less than 500 words • Q: Is there any prescribed / suggested format for the helping plan? e.g. must the plan be in paragraph form? or can it be listed in a table? or a combination of both? • A: No prescribed format. Easily readable. Any format you like. The aim is to show your tutor and myself that you have thought about using some of the skills you learned in this class and try to make them applicable in real life. • Q. The word limit stated in the assignment is not less than 500 words, with no upper limit, and on an information sheet provided to us in tutorial 1, it stated that the plan should be of 1,000 words. So is it correct to say that 1,000 words is the optimum number of words for the helping plan? • A: Yes

A self-refectory Report (25%) • Based on exercises you have done in class and after-class, real life experiences, ……. • Does it applicable in the real life/ your life? • Report what you have learnt/ felt/ experience/ beware of/ …. from this course • no less than 700 words • Q. It says it includes in-class exercises, tutorial worksheets, etc. Will you provide us with a list stating which worksheets should we include in the report?A: No, please include as many things as possible.

  6. In-class Exercise • Bring the hardcopy and do it on the tutorial • No need to hand it on the tutorial • BUT, at the end of the course, you need to hand it to your tutor with the assignments • Download from CSRP website

Group Project and Presentation • Date: 14 April 2010 • Time: 1605-1800 • Venue: Run Run Shaw A208 • Topic chosen: whatever topics that have been introduced in the class, i.e., families of suicide, University student suicide, youth depression, stress at the university, etc. • Topic should be approved by Tutor (ASAP)

  9. Group Project - Outline • Importance of the topic • Topic chosen relevant to the mental health issue • What have been investigated • How to improve/ Suggestions • Anything your group think is important

Format: whatever you like (hopefully with PPT and everyone does SPEAK at least one) • Time limit: 10 min (max) for the presentation and 2 min for Q&A • Sequence for each group to present: will be drawn on the session immediately • At the end of the presentation, please submit the Group Project to the tutor

For the group project report • Q. is there any prescribed / suggested format? e.g. must the plan be in paragraph form? or can it be listed in a table, or presented by diagrams? or a combination of the above? • A: No. My question for you is: How do you sell a product in 10 mins?Q. what is length of the report? (i.e. page limit?) • A: About two pages for every member of the group. Q. Is it possible to provide us with a sample of these assignments so that we can have an concrete ideas as to what the requirements are?  I would be very very grateful if you can provide us with some past samples. • A: Sorry, I did not keep hard copies of past students’ assignments.

  12. Next Week – 2 Guest Speakers • A former director of Suicide Prevention Service, Hong Kong, will share her 15 years of experiences of mobilizing volunteers to help the suicidals within the community • A volunteer who is helping the families of suicides
