PLO Postflop Theory Video # 8: The Turn-River Transition By Tom “LearnedfromTV” Chambers ttest
Turn Texture Review • Definition: A dynamic turn texture is one where the nuts is likely to change on the river and relatively many hands have good equity against the nuts. • Examples: Boards where the nuts is a set or straight • Definition: A static turn texture is one where the nuts is unlikely to change on the river and relatively few hands have good equity against the nuts. • Examples: Boards where the nuts is a flush or full house • -------------------------- • Dynamic turn textures lead to river ranges that include a lot of hands that were semi-bluffing the turn or drawing on the turn. • Static turn textures lead to two-street polarized range scenarios ttest
Basic River Concepts • The river is fundamentally different from other streets for two reasons: • 1. Hand values are static • 2. No additional streets of action • Therefore there are no protection bets or semi-bluffs, only value bets and bluffs. • Assessing Ranges • Reading the board texture backward • Narrowing ranges street-by-street • Splitting both ranges into categories – value betting hands, air, bluff-catchers • River decisions are frequencies-based, not equities-based ttest
Turn-River Texture Transition • Dynamic Turns: • There are several possible river scenarios • Relative hand values shift from turn to river • Strong made hands strong hands (on blanks) or bluffcatchers (when draws complete) • Medium made hands / showdown value hands Bluffcatchers • Draws strong hands (when they complete) or air (when they don’t) • Static Turns: • There are only a couple possible river scenarios, and by far the most likely is that the texture does not change. • Relative hand values mostly stay the same ttest
