Breakout Session A:Graduate Employability Stephen Uden, MicrosoftIt is in everyone's interest that universities are producing graduates that are well-rounded individuals, equipped for the roles they will find in industry. Inside universities there have been significant changes to what is taught and how, but there is more to be done. The split of responsibilities between education and employer training is also ill-defined. There is a great need for communication on these issues, and for partnerships to be built. Breakout Session B:Research to Innovation to Enterprise Emily Nott, TSB The UK is second only to the USA in computing research excellence and output, providing a huge research return on public and private investment. However, that research excellence needs to translate to successful innovation in the enterprise. R&D tax credits and innovation incubators are an enabler, not the answer. The challenge is to create strong and fruitful relationships between research and enterprise in ways that benefit both. Breakout A & B

  6. Breakout Session C: Professional Structures & Education in the Workplace Stephen Darvill, LogicaAround 70% of the UK's 2020 workforce has already started work. There is a great need for education and training for those already in the workplace, and for professional structures that encourage continuous development. Universities are an asset that have yet to be used to any significant degree, despite very low cost and high quality teaching. How can supply and demand be linked together effectively? Breakout Session D:Building a Better Image for IT Peter McOwan, QMULFew would argue that IT is in need of an image update. Contrary to popular perceptions, IT careers are varied and satisfying, and can lead in interesting directions. Yet those interested in furthering the image of IT may find it difficult to know where to start. There is a need to communicate the projects that are taking place, and how it is possible to get involved. Breakout C & D
