How To Solve Long Division By Molly and Raghuveer
DMSCB An easy way to remember the steps of long division is to remember the letters D , M, S, C, and B. They stand for divide, multiply, subtract, check, and bring down . The 6 is the divisor. You can remember that by seeing that the word divisor is smaller than the word dividend , and the 6 is smaller than the 7489.
Getting The One We got the one because 6 can only go into 7 one time.
Multiplying You multiply 6 times 1 and that gives you 6.
Subtracting You subtract 7 minus 6 which gives you 1.
Bringing Down You bring down the 4 which gives you 14.
Let’s Divide! 6 can go into 14 two times.
Multiplying Strikes Back! You multiply 6 times 2 which equals 12.
Subtraction : Part 2 You subtract 14 minus 12 which equals 2.
Bring Down You bring down the 8,which makes a total of 28.
Division : Part 3 6 can go into 28 4 times.
Multiplying 6 times 4 is 24.
Subtracting Strikes Back! You subtract 28 minus 24 which equals 4.
Bring Down You bring down the 9 which makes 49.
Divide’s Last Stand 6 can go into 49 eight times.
Multiplying 6 times 8 is 48
Subtracting When you subtract 49 minus 48, it gives you 1.
Putting the remainder There are no more numbers to bring down, so you put the 1 up as your remainder and that is your answer, or quotient.
