Advocacy, Media and legislative involvement What does this mean? • ASNMU is going to be much more active, involved and vocal to the state and local government, as well as the media through: • Use of a legislative and media strategy through ASNMU • Dramatically increased utilizing the Student Association of Michigan • Editorials, Lobbying, and increased Statewide Media relations • Permanent voter registration in the ASNMU office ASNMU.NMU.EDU 1203 University Center
Bike Share Initiative • What has been done so far? • Bikes will be checked out free of charge from the Library and tent. PEIF • Start out with 25 bikes • We’ve discussed liability issues, and all other details with the appropriate staff • What needs to be done? (By the end of summer) • Put bikes in place for students when they return in August ASNMU.NMU.EDU 1203 University Center
Marq-Tran/ wildcat Shuttle • What has been done so far? • Created and revised Wildcat Shuttle routes • Redesigned campus map • Marqtran has updated and redesigned their website • What needs to be done? • Implement a marketing strategy • Post maps and schedules on each bus stop and around campus • Create a handout pamphlet • Follow up on routes throughout the year to ensure effectiveness ASNMU.NMU.EDU 1203 University Center
ADVOCACY program/Additional Online Outreach What is the program? • A computer program modeled off the system used by the State of Michigan • Will allow efficient and organized log of all student concerns by assigning student concerns to respective representatives ASNMU.NMU.EDU Additional Online • Increased Utilization of: • Facebook, Web Blog, surveying, and Twitter 1203 University Center
Trayless Picture! • Why does ASNMU want to wait on Trayless? • Most simply put: Students were quite opposed • How did we decide? • Held a forum • Asked for opinions on our website blog • Sent a survey to every student (Approx. 10% response, 70% opposed) • The overall result was that students were adamantly opposed. • What now? • Continue to pursue trayless in the future • Run a moderate “Choose Trayless” campaign • Institute the necessary changes needed to make trayless feasible • Most importantly: Involve more students in the discussion.
