GPS System in Action The GPS • The GPS is a Global National Satellite System (GNSS) that utilizes a minimum of 24 strategically placed satellites to determine the position of an object on Earth carrying the GPS. (See it in action)
Position by Triangulation Calculating Position Play Animation • The GPS uses precise microwave signals and triangulation to determine the exact location of the GPS • Triangulation is the geometric term for calculating the position of a target by using 3 points that trace back to the target. • The GPS uses a minimum of 9 satellites at a time to precisely locate an object (See it in action)
Current Implementations • Used on a multitude of electronic gadgets to track and monitor the position of: • Pets and Animals • Expensive Cars • Cell Phones • PDAs • Laptops
The Goal Our goal is to implement GPS systems so that it may be used to track medical patients the may have Alzheimer's (or other serious ailments) so that in a case of an emergency, the patient can be easily found and taken care of. The GPS should have basic information on the patient so that doctors can treat him easily, if necessary and have family members contacted immediately.
The Problem • The GPS must be injected into the person in such a way that it does not cause harm to the person and it doesn’t move around too much • The GPS includes personal information that the user doesn’t not want to be seen by outsiders • Users might find the chip to be too expensive
Injection of the GPS Microchip The Epidermis (Outer Skin Layer) The Dermis (Inner Skin Layer) The Fat Layer Blood Chamber Blood Chamber The Solution Play Animation • We inject the GPS chip into the user’s arm which contains a fair about of body fat to hold the chip in place • It will be placed away from the veins and arteries so that the blood will not ruin the circuitry or accidentally “swallow” it and carry it to a different part of the body The Needle The Chip (See it in action)
The Solution • The GPS shall only contain information necessary for the doctors to make quick decisions during an emergency. • The information shall be scanned and easily accessible on a doctor’s computer
The Solution • The information shall be encrypted and hack-proof to prevent identity theft and leakage of personal information
Added Benefits • The GPS micro-system can also be used by parents to monitor their children and to locate them in the case of a kidnap. • One time cost which ends up saving you more money (and possibly your life!!!) • One time injection which is relatively painless
