The Triple ‘M’ (Manchester Monday Meeting) 19/07/10 Jimmy Garland The University of Manchester The Cockcroft Institute
The past few weeks: • Building GPT Model from ALICE injector line to the entrance of the ALICE Linac. Encountered many problems making the beam go through the sector magnets and matching through the quadrupoles. • Reverted back to MAD model in order to get a good first approximation to the matched quadrupole strengths. • Sat in on 3 EMMA commissioning shifts last week but only as an observer. Septum mapping was carried out as well as EMMA injection line studies and set up such as energy spread measurements.
What next: • The MAD model is a good first approximation. • The GPT model is completely wrong. • Only problem with the MAD model is that is is missing a quad in the second set of matching quadrupoles. Need to wade through code I’ve adapted from Bruno to find out why. • Then enter the quadrupole strengths given by MAD as a first approximation for GPT and using a matching routine in GPT to get a more accurate model of the line. • Continue to extend the line to EMMA in the long run. • Start understanding and working on dispersion and energy spread for Bruno and make sure these are modeled well in GPT.
