Myself as a learner My strengths and areas for development as a learner
What is effective learning? • Reflective • Understood • Deep (as opposed to shallow understanding) • Evolving constantly • Relevant
How have I developed as a learner during the module? • ICT skills – audio and audio-visual recordings, making a ‘wiki’ and a ‘weebly’, e-portfolios • Developing ‘critical reading’ skills • Developing my personal learning network • Developing my presentation skills • Learning about plagiarism and referencing systems
What experiences have had an impact on me and in what ways? • Looking at digital profiles – increased awareness of e-safety and desire to increase others’ awareness of it (via ‘Twitter’) • Self reflection – areas for development (presentation skills, using my voice, learning tools and approaches).
My strengths and weaknesses as a learner • Conscientious • Willing • Thirst for knowledge BUT… • Sometimes performance rather than learning orientated – need to build up self-confidence to overcome this • Can be overly ambitious – need greater focus
What areas for development, in terms of my academic practices, have I become aware of? • Personal learning network • Presentation skills • Use of my voice • ICT skills • Critical reading skills
Summery • To learn effectively one needs to: understand what is being learnt, want to learn, build new knowledge on prior knowledge • To continue developing as a learner, I need to continue developing and building on my personal learning attitudes, resources, and relevant learning (and e-learning) skills.
