Technical Supervision of Modernisation of Marshalling Yard Vaidotai on International Transport Corridor IX (Lithuania) Status quo before Project start • Marshalling Yard was built in 1980‘ies • Third braking position missing • In meantime equipment worn-out,hump control system obsolete • Insufficient number of arrival and departure tracks • Missing tracks for handling of heavy freight trains (6000 t)

Technical Supervision of Modernisation of Marshalling Yard Vaidotai on International Transport Corridor IX (Lithuania) Project Goals • Lithuanian Railways contracted consortium of Siemens AG Braunschweig / Siemens Lithuania / ThyssenKrupp (later SONA BLW) for construction and installation works and supply of equipment (ca. 30 Mio Euro) • Contract started in 2005, putting into operation September 2009, removal of defects until January 2012 • Yard equipped with three retarder positions and automatic microprocessor-based hump control system MSR32 of Siemens • Construction of 8 new tracks and extension of two tracks for 1050 m useful length • Improvement of drainage system, power supply and radio systems as well as environmental aspects • System considers specific conditions of heavy cargo traffic on Russian road gauge • Now Vaidotaiis the most modern shunting yard in Eastern Europe.
