  3. Beginning the Day • Morning Routine • Come in and take “Home” folder out • Put all the papers/homework for the teacher in the top tray next to the teachers desk • Put backpack and jacket away • Move lunch clip • Beginning morning work that is found on the front board

  4. Classroom Rules • Rules decided by: • The rules would be decided by me (the teacher), but I will explain them in great detail to the students. • As a class we will discuss the importance of these specific rules. • Introduced • Posted on the front wall • Sending home a letter to parents on the 1st day and ask for it to be signed and returned Be Respectable. Follow Directions. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. Follow the Golden Rule – Treat others like you would want to be treated!

  6. 1st Day of School Classroom Set Up • Rationale • Focus on each student individually • Avoid issues with grouping students • Observe student behaviors and personalities • High Control – structure and letting the students know who is in control • How Long? When to change? • Understand student’s behavior and who could work together • Different group activities or circumstances such as guest speaker, special day

Hierarchal List of Consequences Conduct Card System • Green = Good Day • Yellow = 1st reminder • Orange = 2nd reminder (walk for 5 mins. – recess) • Blue = 3rd reminder – (walk for 10mins. –recess) • Red = loss of privilege & email home Steps of Action • Ignore the Misbehavior • Proximity • Eye Contact • Verbal • Enforce a Consequence

  8. Transition – CHAMP! Transition: Lining up to leave the classroom C – Students can be a level one (whisper) until they step out the door then at a level zero (no talking) H – A student can raise their hand and the teacher will address the student A – The transition is changing location and this should take 1-2 minutes M – The student can only go to the trash or grab a Kleenex, but then get in line. P – The student is fully participation if they walks to get in line using only a whisper voice when their color or shape is called.

Building Positive Student-Teacher Relationships “All About Me Backpack” • Give all students a brown paper bag, and precut construction paper pieces. • Walk through step by step gluing on each piece • Guide the students through filling out the “about me” section of the backpack. (Help with spelling – by writing words on the board and walking around) • Glue on the backpack straps • Throughout the first day of school everyone will share what their “all about me backpack says” • Set up along the windowsill or display board in the room. • These will be for me as the teacher to put positive or encouraging notes in throughout the school year. The student will be able to check them on Fridays.

  13. End of Day! • End of Day Routines: • Start 15 minutes left in the day • Grab “home” folder • Put all homework or papers to go home and into folder • Grab backpack and jacket • Put “home” folder into backpack • Sit and play educational game until called to leave
