  3. What Are TMT Bars? • Thermo-mechanically treated bars, also known as TMT bars, are high-strength reinforcement bars. They are best for construction projects that require extraordinary strength.   4. Process Of Manufacturing TMT Bars • Converting Iron Ore To Molten Iron • Sourcing & processing raw material: The raw materials used to make TMT bars are iron ore, coal, limestone, and dolomite. They are sourced from reputable locations and then blended in the required proportions. • Purification of iron: The iron ores are beneficiated to increase the iron content. • Conversion of coal: Coal is then converted into coke for later use. • Making Iron: All the materials are heated together. Combining iron and carbon dioxide in an oxygen furnace helps eliminate carbon dioxide. • Secondary steelmaking: This process eliminates casting defects and gives a desirable shape and surface quality. • Continuous Casting: Pouring molten iron into premade molds helps avoid unnecessary defects.

Process Of Manufacturing TMT Bars • Rolling & Thermo-Mechanical Treatment • Rolling: Transfer the steel to a Continuous Casting Machine (CCM) to make billets. • Thermo mechanical treatment: Subject the hot-rolled steel bars to quenching, which is the first step in the thermo mechanical treatment. Quenching involves quickly cooling the hot-rolled steel bars with a water spray. • Tempering: The core of the TMT bar continues to supply heat to the bars as it is still hotter than the outer surface. The heat transfers from the core to the outer surface, tempering the outer structure.  • Atmospheric cooling: The bars are then put on special cooling beds, where the core gets transformed into a ductile ferrite-pearlite structure.
