Installation • Install Software: Choice of used device and installation of the software components. • Readme files: Important information, not available in the manual. • Service & Support: Opens an Internetconnection. (old Link)
Installation • The installation starts. • The version of MS Installer is being checked. Possibly the pc must be restartet. • If components (T&S 5 or 6) were already installed, then they will be removed / updated.
Installation • The used basestation must be selected. • The first three options will only install the configuration software for the Gigaset M34 USB / Gigaset USB Adapter / M105 / M101 and ISDN-WAN driver or the so called Unimodem driver for the internet access. • The options 4-6 will install USB-WAN drivers, software for the Gigaset M34 USB / Gigaset USB Adapter / M105 / M101, CAPI drivers, Fax drivers and the Talk & Surf application (Depending on the Installation)
Example: Installation of a Gigaset SX353. • Optionally the firmware can be updated. • If a wireless adapter is to be used, the connection type can be chosen here.
Example: Installation of a Gigaset SX353. • The desired components can be chosen. • Optional the installation path can be altered
Example: Installation of a Gigaset SX353. • An overview of the components to be installed is given. • The software and drivers are not digitally signed. A message pops up to point on this missing signature which can be ignored during installation.
Example: Installation of a Gigaset SX353. • The missing signature can be ignored and installation continued. • Now the device can be connected. As the drivers are copied to the harddisk, the installation is largely automated.
Example: Installation of a Gigaset SX353. • The installation has completed and the installed components are ready to be used after a restart.
After the installation several new symbols appear in the Taskbar. (Depending on the Installation) Wireless connection active USB connection active No connection available
In the device manager the following new entries can be found after installation (Depending on the Installation) Installation with data box USB direct connection
Part 3 Example: Installation of a Gigaset SX100isdn
Example: Installation of a Gigaset SX100isdn • After choosing the basstation, the connection type can be chosen. Example: Installation of a Gigaset SX100isdn • An overview of the components to be installed is given. • After Installation of the Gigaset M34USB, Gigaset USB Adapter/M105 drivers (for M101 no drivers are installed) and the configuration software, the installation can be finished
Example: Installation of a Gigaset SX100isdn • After the installation an restart the following components should have been added to the device manager. (Depending on the installation). • The Unimodem driver uses a (virtual) COM-Port for communication. Installation with USB Adapter/M105 Installation with M34 USB
FAQ`s After uninstalling of older Talk & Surf versions I have problems to reinstalling it. It can happen that during deinstallation not all components are uninstalled 100% automatically. This happens with Talk 6 Surf 6.0.15. To remove everything the T&S uninstall tools can be used. These tools can be found on the CD in the folder \tools\uninst_t&s-5-x_drv and \tools\uninst_t&s-5-x_xp What type of application can be used with the installed driver? When using the Gigaset CX/SX100, CX/SX150, CX203/253 a Unimodem-driver/ISDN-WAN- driver is installled for the internet access. No T&S application, Capi or Fax drivers can be installed. The Unimodem-driver/ISDN-WAN- driver can be used only for an internet connection. Can I use the Unimodem drivers with the other base stations (like e.g. SX3x3/SX2x5) instead of installing the complete Talk & Surf? The Unimodem drivers can be used via a wireless adapter. The driver can be installed manually and should be given the correct (virtual) COM-Port. As a USB direct connection does not provide a virtual COM-port, it cannot be used with the Unimodem driver.
FAQ`s • Is it possible to increase the range with the Gigaset Repeater? • No, the Repeater is just for telephony mode. It is not possible to set up a data connection with the Repeater. • Is it possible to use both ISDN channels (Channel bundling) for a data connection at the same time? • Yes, a channel bundling via the USB interface is possible. You can only use one ISDN channel if you want to make a DECT (wireless) data connection. • Does a data adapter block register capacity of the base station? • Yes, every registered data adapter uses one internal number and it reduces the space for the handsets. • Is it possible to use more than one adapter at one base station? • Yes, you can register as much data adapters as handsets. Please note, that every registered data adapter reduces the space for the handsets.
FAQ`s • How can I make an internet connection with the device? • If there is a cable USB connection between the base station and the computer, an online connection is only possible with an installed ISDN WAN driver. • If there is a wireless connection between the base station and the Gigaset M34 USB, USB adapter DECT, Gigaset M101 or Gigaset M105, the installation of a “Uni-Modem”- or WAN driver is possible. Basically, we recommend to use the WAN driver. • How can I use the Capi? • After the installation the Capi is automatically activated (white/blue icon in the Systray). The main functionality of the Capi is the allocation of a defined interface for other communication programs. If you click on the icon with the right mouse button, you’ll get the options in the context menu. • Do I have to install a Capi for an online connection? • No, the Capi provides a defined interface for other communication programs (e.g. the Talk&Surf fax drivers). The online connection is possible with the “WAN drivers”. • If there is a wireless connection between the base station and the USB adapter DECT, Gigaset M101 or Gigaset M105, the installation of a “Uni-Modem” driver is possible. With these driver (available on the product under “gigaset-usb-adapter”) a modem for the particular interface will be installed. Please note the FAQ’s for the online connection.
FAQ`s • Is it possible to install multiple ISDN Adapters on my computer? • No, only one Capi can be installed on a computer at the same time. If an ISDN adapter has already been installed or another ISDN adapter should be installed, you can expect that the additional adapter or the Siemens DECT base does not work. • Can I send or receive faxes via DECT? • Basically, faxing should be possible. While faxing with a wireless connection, the running time of the signals can cause problems during the fax transmission. • Can I use the PC application to make phone calls from my pc? • With the installation of the drivers of the base station, automatically so called TAPI drivers are installed. These drivers enable the forwarding of a phone number to a preselected internal user (phone). Only the phone number is forwarded to the phone, the conversation is held at with the phone
FAQ`s • How can I dial a phone number from a pc application like Outlook? • To be able to dial a number from a pc application the following requirements have to be met: • The ISDN base station must be connected and installed on the pc. • The pc application must support TAPI (Outlook supports TAPI) • The following example shows the configuration within Outlook, other applications are • configured similar:
FAQ`s Make sure that the correct internal number is chosen for this application. To do so open the Talk & Surf application and go to the section: “Configuration – Base settings – Assignments”. Activate the option “Connect phone to the pc” and choose the appropriate internal number from the list.
FAQ`s Open Outlook. Open the Contacts and choose the contact you would like to call. • Click on the telephone symbol in the menu bar or open it through “Actions – Call contact” and choose the number you would like to dial.
FAQ`s • Now the window “New Call” will open. • Open the “Dialing Options”.
FAQ`s • Under “Connect Using”, choose the “Line 0 on hub device” and confirm with “OK”. • Now you can choose “Start Call” to start dialling. • The telephone number will be transferred to the internal device which was chosen before.
