  13. Rape is not an act of "love" and it is usually not even of "passion“ but it is an act of debasing and degrading the victim. • Emotional scars of rape are severe. Some women even become mentally unbalanced, and need to be hospitalized for an indeterminate amount of time.

  14. Any female, from the tender young age of infancy to the golden years of the 80's or 90's, is a potential rape victim. • A rapist, or a potential rapist, generally represents the lower end of the economic scale.

  15. Rape is primarily a crime of the inner city, but it does occur in suburban areas. More than half of all rapes occur in homes. • Other places for rapes are in alleys, open fields, parks, and cars.

  16. Many times a woman is raped by someone she knows - a date, or an overpowering boss.

  37. Introduction • Generally juvenile delinquency involves some form of ‘offending’ by youth in a certain stage of age. • It can be divided into two categories: • acts or omissions which are prohibited and punishable by law under the respective legal systems. • acts which are known as ‘status offences’ .

  38. Definition.. • A juvenile is a child or young person who under, the respective legal systems, may be deal with for an offence in a manner which is different from an adult. • Under Malaysian Child Act 2001,”child” : - a person under the age of eighteen years - anybody who is less then 18 years old will be treated differently from an adult particularly in respect of procedure and punishment.

  39. In Malaysia, the statistics recorded that there were 14691 juveniles who were arrested for committing offences through the years 2002 until November 2004. • The average of 420 cases per month and 14 case per day.

  42. SMOKING WHO-WPRO-Smoking Statistics http://www.wpro.who.int/media_centre/fact_sheets/fs_20020528.htm 2002

  43. Youth • Among young teens (aged 13 to 15), about one in five smokes worldwide. • Between 80,000 and 100,000 children worldwide start smoking every day - roughly half of whom live in Asia. • Evidence shows that around 50% of those who start smoking in adolescent years go on to smoke for 15 to 20 years. • Peer-reviewed studies show teenagers are heavily influenced by tobacco advertising.

  44. Health • Half of long-term smokers will die from tobacco. Every cigarette smoked cuts at least five minutes of life on average - about the time taken to smoke it. • It is a prime factor in heart disease, stroke and chronic lung disease. More than 4,000 toxic or have been found in tobacco smoke. • At least a quarter of all deaths from heart diseases and about three-quarters of world's chronic bronchitis are related to smoking.

  45. MALAYSIA • About half of all Malaysian men smoke. • Every day about 50 teenagers below the age of 18 start smoking. • Studies show about 30% of adolescent boys (aged 12 to 18) smoke. • Smoking among female teens is rising. According to two studies on teens conducted in 1996 and 1999, the numbers of female teens smoking rose from 4.8% to 8%. Overall, the 1999 study found nearly one in five teens smokes.

  46. Some studies have shown that lung cancer is rising at a rate of 17% a year. • Although there are restrictions on advertising, tobacco companies have found ways to bypass these laws through using brand names and remain the top advertisers. Heavily advertised products include the Benson and Hedges bistro, Dunhill accessories, Marlboro clothing, Kent Horizon Tours and Salem Cool Planet concerts.

  47. Malaysia has been dubbed the "indirect advertising capital" of the world. Some of the tobacco industry's most blatant efforts to target young people can be seen here. • At least two tobacco companies were among the top 10 advertisers in recent years.
