Who Am I? By: Kaleb and Cassie
Years in Office • I was in office from 1881-1884.
Vice President • I didn’t have a vice president because I was vice president when Garfield was in office and Garfield died in office so I became president.
Positive Work as President • During the Civil War I pushed a bill through congress beginning the construction of many steel boats. • In 1882 I passed the first general federal immigration law stating that paupers, criminals, and lunatics were no longer allowed to immigrate into the United States.
Fun Facts • I graduated from Union College in 1848. • I was a New York lawyer. • Two years after I was in office I died at the age of 57. • I died of a kidney disease.

Years In Office • I served in office for four terms and was in office longer than any other U.S. president. I was president from 1933-1945.
Vice President • I had three vice presidents: • John N. Garner was vice president for 2 terms. (1933-1941) • Henry A. Wallace was my 2nd vice president. (1941-1945) • Harry S. Truman was my vice president for about 3 months in 1945, but I died on April 12th 1945 so he became president.
Positive Work as President • I brought the U.S. out of the Great Depression. • I helped us get ready and prepared for World War II. • I created the initiation of economic relief programs otherwise known as the “New Deal”.
Fun Facts • I was the governor of New York from 1929-1933. • I graduated from Harvard College in 1903 and attended Columbia Law School. • My presidential salary is $75,000.00 per year. • I was in office when I died of Polio(disease).

Positive Work as President • Treaty of 1848 with Mexico gave the US control over California, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and parts of Colorado and Wyoming. • Gold was discovered in California in December. • 1846-dispute over Britain is settled. Both nations get part of the territory.
Fun Facts • His nickname is Young Hickory. • His secretary of navy was John Y. Mason • Dancing and music was not allowed at the White House parties while he was in office. • The states of Iowa, Texas, and Wisconsin became states while he was in office.
